The advantages to study the Foundation Programme at ELA as opposed to the bigger University partnered organisations are as follows:

• we take students on with low English levels - as low as 4.0 and 4.5 scores in IELTS. In such cases the students are offered a 12-week Intensive English course of 25-30 hours p/w before the Foundation Programme to bring their English to the required level. (The Intensive English term is at an additional cost. The student will apply for a Tier 4 visa for all four terms included in one course).
• as an English language school with an expertise in Academic English and IELTS preparation, we guarantee our students’ language skills will be improved to the highest standard required to undertake the University studies
• we put great emphasis on the English language training to make sure students are ready for University studies where the has to cope with the autonomous nature of higher education in the UK. We teach students that studying at university is mainly self-study as opposed to the secondary school teacher-supervised learning
• we really care about individual students and their future careers. So we pride ourselves on pre- paring students not just to get into university but to excel at university! We teach students strategies and techniques to be able to get an honours degree with distinction. We impress upon students the importance of reading as much as possible from a wide range of sources. Then demonstrate and practice using information in a relevant way to help their essays illustrate the essential critical and analytical thinking necessary for top marks!
• we help students with university applications and support closely the very important personal statements. The personal statement structure is taught in lessons and tutorials with the academic supervisor ensure students have quality applications to help secure university places in their chosen field and at the university they want to go to
• culture studies include a wide range of topics such as Edinburgh & Scotland life, history & art, Food & drink, Legends, Music, People & stereotypes, British History, Royal Family, Scottish Independence and much more to make sure students understand the culture and feel more like at home.
