IELTS exam preparation course focuses on expanding the students’ ability to learn and accurately use complex academic vocabulary and sentence constructions and incorporates transferable study skills necessary for Higher Education. The course also equips students with a strategy to successfully answer all tasks on each paper. All students are given full mock exams so they get vital practice under the pressure of exam conditions.
The IELTS courses at ELA are split into different levels, and the students are placed into the IELTS classes based on their current level of English. The minimum requirement is the B1 or Intermediate level. If a student's level is lower than B1, the student would have to attend our General English and Skills before joining the IELTS class.
You would typically study three hours a day a combination of Academic English and all four skills of the language and then two hours a day of exam preparation techniques and skills. The course is typically twenty-five hours per week full time or ten hours per week part time (pure exam technique classes).

I learnt a lot while I was studying at ELA. I chose ELA over other options because I was studying general English in the morning and in the afternoon classes I took a preparation course on IELTS, finally, after taking my exam I had a month left which was already paid for, so I decided to change to that class in order to gain experience in business area (It would have been boring if I had taken the IELTS course again). The first thing I would highlight from my experience at ELA, it is the teachers, they share all their knowledge without hesitation, I went to class everyday with many doubts and they clarified everything, whatever it was from grammar, vocabulary, idioms, etc. They made easier and pleasant my stay. Thank you so much every teacher but specially to Steve and Hedvig for helping me improving my English to get a higher score on IELTS. I find it very useful how the classes are arranged for the student to interact with their classmates, personally, I believe teamwork does the magic, it is the way of learning. I believe not only Edinburgh is a great place to study but all United Kingdom, but regarding Edinburgh I find it fascinating, it is a multicultural place where you can come upon distinct cultural and social events. Surely, you will meet local people but also many foreigners. Like they say here, "first-come, first-served". I would recommend to those who come here, please if you want to apply to a university do it straight away, otherwise you will lose your place in a matter of days or weeks! Do not let the time decide for you - you decide! And please do not skip classes do not be irresponsible, you will regret it in the future.
Please send my greetings to Olga, Steven and everyone there.
My first language experience, it was awesome! Grazie a tutti, sti cazzi!!!

"And finally all of my efforts have come to an end. Today is the beginning of a new way of thinking and experiencing life, focusing my mind on my future. I've passed my final exams with the mark I needed to enter university in Scotland. Finally, I've won my challenge, and I would like to thank all of my teachers who supported me in ELA, especially I'd like to thank my teacher and personal supervisor Oana Morgan, I finally made it! And now hold on, my future life in Scotland is waiting for me [High Hopes!]"
